Famille Perrin and their Beaucastels

The tasting proved that the Perrin family knows how to hit 'em high and hit 'em low.

Len writes,

The tasting proved that the Perrin family knows how to hit ‘em high and hit ‘em low.

the two Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Papes showed wonderfuly Both had been open since the morning. Most tasters thought the Perrins might be right to call their 2020s their best since 1978. The estate Beaucastel was deep, spicy, and complex, from its Mourvedre-heavy blend of all thirteen Rhone grape varieties and only hinted at the complexity it would develop with ten or more years of aging.

The Hommage a Jacques Perrin was superb with a composed and seamless fullness that only hinted at a superb potential. It was a privilege to taste.

Tasters felt that the quality of two lesser appelations greatly exceeded their price. The Cotes du Rhone Villages was extraordinarily good for a very low price. A step up, the Vinsobres had a layered depth unusual at its.

The 2021  Chateauneuf du Pape Sinard was lighter in affect, sweet and approachable right now. the single plot Gigondas Les Tourelles was much deeper, but promised a lot of richness to come under its cloak of wood. It will arrive in about two to three  weeks

2020 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin;

"a monumental effort. It dazzles with pristine aromas of rose water, crushed violets, red and black cherry, blueberry, forest strawberry, licorice, dried lavender, bay leaves, sage, black olive, and cardamom. Firmly formed like a skyscraper, the wine continuously builds on the palate, exposing layer upon layer of jewel-like fruit. As the taste develops, pixelated tannins enter the scene, adding to the wine's seamless mouthfeel. Despite the elevated flavor concentration, the wine is so light on its feet that tasting it is an almost ethereal moment." Vinous
