The Wines of This Week's Tasting:
New Vintages of Some of our Favorite Value Bordeaux
February 21, 2024

White
2022 Ch Thieuley Blanc Bordeaux
The 2021 was a growing favorite for value among our southern young blonde base ones, and the 2022 is an even riper vintage. This will be great value again. $17.99, Special Prearrival $14.99
Red Bordeaux
2019 Chateau Puyanche Francs Cote de Bordeaux
Made by our friend Margaux Arbo, this succeeds the warm and spicy 2016,$17.99, Special Prearrival, $14.99
2019 Ch Vaisinerie Puisseguin St. Emilion
This would be much more expensive if it were just over the border in Sant Emilion proper. The previous vintage was clean and higher-toned with mouthwatering acidity. 2019 is an even richer vintage. Great value at the price. $19.99, Special Prearrival $15.99
2019 Prieure de Beyzac Haut Medoc
"a really lovely bouquet of perfumed red cherries and wild strawberry and well-integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, pinpoint acidity, and great precision toward the finish. This is one of the outstanding Cru Bourgeois of the vintage. Absolutely superb." Neal Martin, Vinous
$19.99, Special Prearrival $15.99
2015 Chateau Cap de Faugeres Castillon
a gorgeous entry-level wine from [the proprietor of Peby Faugeres and Lafaurie-Peyraguey]. Pliant, succulent and inviting, it possesses striking fruit density and balance, especially at this level. Iron, smoke, leather, licorice and herbs given this Merlot-based red added shades of nuance. The 2015 has turned out beautifully.– Neal Martin, Vinous $27.99, Special Prearrival $22.99
2016 Ch. Peyrabon Haut Medoc
"tightly wound and quite floral on the nose of wilted rose petals, red berry fruit and unfurling light woodland scents. The palate is medium-bodied with light but quite pliant tannins that frame the soy-tinged red fruit, leading to a peppery finish. Thoroughly enjoyable." Neal Martin, Vinous $27.99, Special Prearrival $22.99
2016 Moulin de la Lagune Haut Medoc
The 2015 was a go-to wine at its price. The second wine of Grand Cru Chateau la Lagune is one with class and depth. The 2016 is even more vibrant than the softer 2015. $40, Special Prearrival $31.99
