Two Everyday Rieslings
From the underrated 2024 vintage. Karp Schreiber in the Mosel is a solid producer of good everyday wines. Both are barely off-dry. At their new prices, these wines suit weekday sipping and pair well with lighter fish or chicken dishes.

Two Cru Beaujolais
Cru Beaujolais has become a substitute for more expensive burgundy and has gotten more expensive itself. We found two wines from its more substantial communes that have softened but retained their imprint. The Moulin a Vent has its earthy character, while the single-vineyard Morgon shows the breed and finesse of its commune.

2023 Louis Claude Desvignes Morgon Javernieres
Color: black with a crimson edge; Aroma: heady and forward leas in the nose, sweet and heady forward; Mouth rich ripe and forward very bright and juicy, classic Morgon in a ripe year, a slight bitterness, mouth staining ripe acids Very Good - Excellent Was $40 - $29.95 ; Case, $25.95
A Chateauneuf du Pape
Good Chateauneuf is scarce at $50 a bottle. Under $40, it is non-existent. This cuvee comes from the family that produces Chateau Beaucastel, one of the best of the commune. It's for drinking now, and every day. Mellowed, it retains Chateauneuf’s ripe and earthy character.

Aroma: Chateauneuf's sweet spice, with a soft underlayer of ripe grenache and earth; Mouth firm, light top medium body , .light firm tannins, good acid balance, long finish Very Good Plus Was $55, $45; Case, $38

2019 Caparzo Brunello Riserva
Falstaff 2025: Shimmering ruby red with purple reflections. Warm-hearted nose, with ripe blackberry and plum behind some cedar wood. More freshness on the palate, now reminiscent of redcurrant, some thyme and rosemary. Salty with a medium-long finish.
Decanter 2024 “ Still youthfully restrained, the nose flirts with cedar, leather and heather, then the palate changes gear with its overtly powerful drive of substantial yet sophisticated chalky tannins and brisk acidity. By comparison, subtle flavours of wet stone and polished red cherry seem polite and tame for the time being. This will need time to develop into its full expression. Drink 2027 -2037

2020 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino
Vinous rich and exuberant in the glass, bursts with autumnal spices, crushed raspberries, shaved cedar and dusty rose. It impresses further with a core of ripe red berry fruits that saturate deeply, displaying a pleasant inner sweetness offset by a salty core of minerality. The 2020 leaves the palate drenched in primary concentration with a tart cranberry, licorice resonance, and grippy tannins, all while maintaining a remarkably fresh persona. The 2020 has a large-scale feel with expertly maintained balance.
Falstaff: Bright ruby red. Elegantly fragrant nose, inviting, with cherry cordial, malt, precious wood, subtle hints of cold smoke and dried rose petal. Very juicy and clear on the palate, with a polished, elegant finish. With a fine salty undertone, it has light mint aromas. Long, vibrant, fine.
