2020 Ch. Tour St Christophe
St. Emilion on the Ascent

Tour St. Christophe has been good for years, but always somewhat under most peoples' radar is an up-and-coming Chateau that has made remarkable progress even by the standards of the most progressive chateaus in Saint Emilion. Asisan billionaire Peter Kwok, seeing its potential, purchased it in 2015 and invested in and modernized both vineyard and winery. Long labeled simple Grand Cru, its wines have improved so much that with the 2022, it gained the higher official Grand Cru Classe classification, a significant step up.
2020 was one of those vintages that enhanced its reputation and earned it a promotion. In a fine vintage year for Bordeaux Tour, St. Christophe stood out for its price and quality. It was recognized as a wine of both power and refinement. It should be approachable in another year or two and last for up to twenty.
A sampling of the critics:
William Kelley, Wine Advocate opens in the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, raspberries, and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively, and pure palate that's rich and fleshy, with generously extracted tannins asserting themselves on the finish. It's a modern, crowd-pleasing wine from clay-rich soils opposite Troplong Mondot in the commune Saint Christophe des Bardes."
Neal Martin - Vinous: "Powerful on the nose with intense black cherries, boysenberry, and mint aromas - a nose that takes no prisoners! The palate is sweet and dense, but there are structure and sapidity here, a sense of underlying elegance that will surface with bottle age. This is definitely a Saint-Émilion for cellaring."
Jane Anson Powerful blue and black fruits, exuberant with layers of cocoa bean, espresso, smoked almond and mocha. Touch of bitterness on finish, turns into oyster shell freshness as it relaxes. Clay limestone vineyard located in St Christophe de Bardes, 20% vinified in barrel, the rest on cement tanks, 40% new oak,
