For the past 50 years, Casanova di Neri has been one of the leading lights of Brunello di Montalcino. Giovanni Neri founded the estate now run by his son Giacomo. They bought the high-elevation cool-climate vineyard Ceretalto and added selected vineyards over time. Recently, Giacomo built the Relais di Casanova di Neri
The mild winter of 2019 was followed by a problematic month of May, which ultimately worked out as evidenced by the remarkable bottlings of Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino. And as every year passes, the winery's clone of Sangiovese of Casanova di Neri continues to shine.
Casanova di Neri 2019 'White Label' Brunello di Montalcino "shows thick fruit fabric with stitchings of underbrush, pressed rose, bright cherry, tobacco & balanced oak spice. This wine has a unique groove. It offers a ripe, round texture with good acidity followed by fine, chalky tannins... This is one of the best village Brunellos from Giacomo Neri his family has made. " Monica Larner The Wine Advocate $85, six Bottles $449 (74.83), case of 12 $867, (72.25)
2019 Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova Brunello di Montalcino
"In my mind, this wine best represents the Casanova di Neri house style. that With 30 months of aging in tonneaux, it shows enormous richness & texture. … has a dark vein of toasted spice, black fruit, ink blackberry compote, licorice & star anise. Dark as night, it is exceptionally well crafted with a robust delivery of concentrated fruit & solid tannic structure."
Monica Larner The Wine Advocate $175, case of 6 $894, ($149)
