2017 Tenuta Santa Maria Valpolicella Classico Ripasso
April 20, 2021
Tenuta Santa Maria was founded in 1850 by the Bertani family in Verona. Farmers since the sixteenth century, the family makes historic wines. Today the wines are a perfect blend of historic passion and skill. The two most famous wines in Valpolicella are Amarone, made with concentrated air-dried grapes, and Ripasso, made by refermenting the Valpolicella on the skins of the Amarone. The Bertani family invented both of these famous styles of wine.
Today Gaetano and Giovanni Bertani continue to make these world-class wines at Villa Mosconi in Negrar Valpolicella. The 2017 Tenuta Santa Maria Valpolicella Classico Ripasso has it all. It is made with Corvina, Rondinella, and Corvinone grapes from vineyards of exceptional terroir. The wine is intense, elegant, and complex in a perfectly balanced way. It is extremely versatile with food. It is also approachable now and will age well for many years.
2017 Tenuta Santa Maria Valpolicella Classico Ripasso: Vivid ruby red. Aromas and flavors of dark cherry, blueberry, licorice, cinnamon, and pepper.
