A Great Deal
Elk Cove's 2016 Pike Road Pinot Noir Fairsing Vineyard
August 27, 2019
Elk Cove's Pike Road Shea Pinot Noir sold out very quickly, but the distributer has offered us a bit of their 2016 Fairsing Vineyard Pinot Noir, that was that was originally the same price as the Shea, We can offer it at the same discount.
Fairsing Vineyard is in the same Yamhill-Carleton Region as Shea, but it is younger having been planted in 2006. Like Shea it is attracting the attention of prime wineries; for examples in addition to Elk Cove, Erath, Et Fille, and Roots
Josh Raynolds in Vinous liked the 2016 Shea and Fairsing equally:
2016 Pike Road Pinot Noir Fairsing Vineyard
"Lurid ruby-red. Ripe red and dark berry, baking spice and vanilla aromas, along with a smoky mineral nuance on the powerfully scented nose. Concentrated black raspberry, cherry cola and spicecake flavors show excellent clarity and become sweeter on the back half. Hangs on with strong tenacity on the dark-berry-driven finish, which is framed by fine-grained, slow-building tannins. (22% new French oak) "
Compare to his notes on the sold -out Shea
“Brilliant red. A highly aromatic bouquet displays ripe red and blue fruit, star anise and smoky Indian spices, along with a building mineral overtone. Juicy and precise on the palate, offering concentrated, mineral-laced black raspberry, cherry liqueur, rose pastille and spice cake flavors that deepen steadily with air. Delivers an impressive blend of power and delicacy and finishes with mounting tannins and strong, minerally persistence. (30% new French oak)”
Anthony Diaz Blue on the Pike Road 2016 Fairsing Vineyard:
"Smooth and clean, juicy, deep and savory with nice earth notes; ripe cherry fruit and soft spice; long, complex and balanced."
