2019 Bordeaux Futures

Update

If you don't see a wine, please email me for it. Some of our customers have already placed orders for wines that have not been released. Tempus fugit!!!

Tightly allocated wines are marked Ltd

We will be posting our offerings on our website and by email.

There has not been anywhere near the amount of independent tasting of the 2019’s as we are used to during past campaigns. This is what I can pass along:

1. The 2019 quantity produced is greater than the 2014-2016 average. Prices  run 18 to 25% less than 2018s. Mouton’s opening price is down 20% from 2018

2. The quality seems to run from very good plus  for the lesser chateau to excellent for the top vineyards. Overall it is being described at the same level as 2010,2016 or 2018.

3. The style seems to be best described as “classical” Bordeaux. Sleek, refined with soft deep tannins, balanced acidity. Potentially long lived. Both Cabernet and Merlot were successful and uniform across all appellations.

4. Because many of their customers cannot visit, many chateaux have posted social media reports/videos detailing their 2019 vintage. I would strongly recommend a quick search.

5. I will list the potential alcoholic content of each wine.  Currently French wines less than 14% alcohol are subject to a 25% surcharge. Those greater than 14% are not. These 2019 wines will not be shipped to the US until March,2022 or after No one can predict whether or how much the tariff will be then. Therefore tariff is not included in our pricing. If there are either  a tariff or additional fees when the wine is ready to ship, we can  either  have the wine  stored in Bordeaux for a period at no charge to you or have the  wine shipped with  with your payment of whatever is owed.

Given the quality of the vintage and lower prices that are currently being offered I highly recommend purchasing 2019 Bordeaux. The consistency across all areas means choosing what to buy is free of quality concern. The only question  is whether there will  be a tariff or not.

We don’t hold with points, or some wine writers, but want to call your attention to a few moderately priced  wines that have gotten good notes from wine writers we trust
