Castiglione Faletto - Home to Cavallotto and Paolo Scavino

Paolo Scavino and Cavallotto are two of the finest producers of great Barolo. Luckily, they also produce wines that are ready to enjoy, affordable and satisfying. The 2015 Paolo Scavino Langhe Nebbiolo  and the 2015 Cavallotto Dolcetto Vigna Scot both fit the bill.

Langhe Nebbiolo is essentially poor man’s Barolo. Same grape, same vineyards but made from younger vines that give a wine that is somewhat less powerful. The Scavino still has flowers, spice and fruit and makes you feel smart when you drink it.

Dolcetto on the other hand is woefully overlooked by the marketplace.  Wines from Dolcetto can be light and easy all the way to complex and serious. The Cavallotto is perfectly in the middle ground. This goes with a lot of things and is a great pizza wine.

I spent time with both Elisa Scavino and Alfio Cavallotto on my recent visit in Piedmont. It reminded me to share these wonderful wines with you.
