A Wine We Loved

2016 Rene Rostaing Cote Rotie Ampodium

Rene Rostaing is a classicist, not a voluptuary, in Cote Rotie. Through his wife he inherited vineyards from two Cote Rotie greats, Albert Dervieux and Marius Gentaz-Dervieux. He honors the vineyards and their long history. It is no surprise that he doubled down by renaming his Cuvee Classique Ampodium, after the Roman settlement that is today’s Ampuis.

The 2016 is very, very fine, poised and balanced, as classy an example for Cote Rotie as we have tasted. To age 5 – 10 years.

2016 Rene Rostaing Côte Rotie Ampodium; Aroma: Heady very dense spicy, a bit reduced now very clean very, very  pure; Mouth: Dense smooth again very pure, polished and precise, tight and sinewy, restrained tannins; Excellent-Outstanding 89; Mixed Case, 80.1; Case, 75.65
