2014 Decelle-Villa Meursault

Price Reduction on a Delicious White Burgundy

Decelle-Villa Meursault

Lovers of classically styled white burgundy prize the 2014 vintage for its satisfying bright acids and rich, very full fruit, a combination rarer in the region.
Last month I spent an afternoon with the affable, thoughtful, and energetic Olivier Decelle. He has become well known in France as having raised Mas Amiel in Roussillon and St. Emilion's Ch. Jean Faure to new heights of critical acclaim.
He has also partnered with Rhone winemaker Pierre-Jean Villa (Vins de Vienne and a St Joseph estate) to make burgundies that have been well received in France, but are as yet little known here.

The Hachette Guide  "Founded  in 2009, this estate and negociant has established a solid reputation in Burgundy."

Bettane Desseuve - Decelle Villa "is off on the right path. They have entrusted the technical direction to Jean Lupatelli, a talented winemaker who oversees and directs all the  stocks with great insight."

His 2014 Meursault had richness, balance and and very satisfying tension under its sheen of pear fruit that  intrigued me, as well as some writers in Europe:
From Holland:

"light golden yellow with green sheen. Intriguing smoky complex Burgundy bouquet with the character of a great Meursault. Full of mineral-rich Chardonnay finesse with a touch of peach, lime and vanilla. Also in the taste - rich chewy Burgundian richness. Greasy Chardonnay fruit, subtle tinge of oak, caramel and beautiful fresh acids in support. Great Meursault from 2014, a top year for white burgundy. 13% vol. 16 months aged in French oak barriques of which 30% are new. Enjoy now, through 2021."

The Revue du Vin de France

Decelle-Villa 2014 whites "are clean and tasty, with the Meursault quite a level up. It shows a  shows a rich and suave side."

M. Decelle wants to have his wines better known in the States and offered me the Meursault at a discount. I accepted at once. The wine will arrive in about two weeks.
